“The minute I walked into the waiting room and saw everybody in tears, is the minute I created Krystal Cantu, The Strong One. I didn’t let her go until last year.”
Just one month after she was discharged from hospital, a determined Krystal stepped into the gym, returning to Crossfit. Overnight, she unintentionally became a sensation. “I was put in the spotlight as a Crossfit adaptive athlete.”
Eventually, Krystal felt the weight of being in the public eye, and the pressure to always be strong, and appear unaffected by her accident. “I started experiencing anxiety on a completely different level,” she tells SELF.
“This fear was taking over my life. I knew I had to change.”
In a partnership between On, and SELF, the health, beauty and style magazine, Cantu shares an untold side of her story. Watch the second film in our four-part series, where we celebrate the new Cloud 5 through inspirational people who have embraced differences and overcome challenges.
