Tech Profile: The Cloudswift Edge Prism

When the On Lab team set out to take our performance running shoe made for hard-hitting, urban environments to the edge – ‘light’ was the concept they decided to play with. In every sense of the word. The Cloudswift Edge Prism is the result. 

“We always like to look at the Performance All Day range in a different light. In this case, we took a realistic approach and used the iridescent effect of the color-shifting material to express this idea of seeing things differently,” says Senior Product Manager for On, Ruth Heenan.

Running shoe tech, all day performance

The Cloudswift Edge Prism uses the same CloudTec® technology in Helion™ superfoam as the Cloudswift. So, you get the technical aspects you know and love from your favorite running shoe, now engineered for all-day wear.

“We are using performance tech to be authentic within the lifestyle space, not just creating for the sake of it,” says Ruth. “We want all the comfort and performance of a running shoe, but in a product visually tweaked for the everyday.”

Shining bright

When playing with the idea of light, the On Lab team wanted to go further than fancy dye techniques. And not just because they can be harmful to the environment. They wanted to push shoe design to the experimental edge, creating an upper that literally shines with performance.

No magic tricks, just smart Swiss engineering.

They managed to achieve this standout iridescence by cleverly weaving two different color yarns together to create a single textile with a prism-like effect. An engineered mesh that’s as breathable as it is bold.

The result? A unique, color-shifting look that’s unmissable.

While your eye might be drawn to the striking upper, what’s going on underfoot is no less impressive.

This sole is made to be your foot’s best friend, softening footfalls and working in harmony with your every movement. The Speedboard® is specifically designed for the Cloudswift Edge Prism to support your foot’s natural rolling motion as you go about your day.

Each step is cushioned to the max with Helion™ superfoam CloudTec® from heel to toe, and rubber grip elements ensure you have proper traction, soft landings, and explosive take-offs – whatever your day has in store.

That’s a wrap

When you’re on the move all day, the last thing you want is to be distracted by what you’re wearing. The On Lab team engineered the Cloudswift Edge Prism so your shoes are the last thing on your mind.

Your heel is securely held in place with a semi-translucent TPU heel cage that supports you from morning to night, and looks great doing it. The upper wraps your foot in a debossed eyestay that holds you in comfort, without any extra bulk. Engineering the tongue into the mesh upper gives this shoe a sock-like feeling that you can just pull on, and head out the door.
