Scope 1,2 & 3 Assessment
With so many different opportunities to reduce our footprint, it’s important that we focus on the areas where we will have the biggest impact. We have been assessing the CO2 footprint of our operations which helps us better understand where the right actions will reduce our impact.
For us, Scope 3 emissions (those associated with the operations related to the products we produce) account for the most CO2. This means we can have a major impact by focusing on material production and product manufacturing. It’s this analysis that led us to introduce our preferred material strategy and phase out certain materials. It also supports the work we are doing to develop new innovative materials that have a smaller environmental footprint and to further refine our considered design approach. As an example, we are working towards phasing out virgin polyester and replacing it entirely with 100% recycled polyester.
Simultaneously we are assessing the CO2 footprint of our individual products. This will help us to set the right targets and ensure we are reducing the footprint over time.
CO2 Budget
Time is of the essence when it comes to climate change, so at the same time as we’re getting an accurate picture of our overall footprint we’re also taking immediate action. We are in the process of establishing an internal CO2 budget for team travel. We’re a fast-growing international organization but we want to decouple our growth from our travels. We will soon implement a framework that give each team a CO2 budget. Teams can then use this information to plan travel with their CO2 footprint in mind.
