How did you start running? I had to run – I wanted to do my first triathlon ;) Though in the beginning, I really didn’t like to run at ALL!
Why do you run now? Now I love to run – it gives me freedom. You can run anywhere and there is always space for a pair of shoes in your bag.
What has been the most important race you’ve run to date? IRONMAN HAWAII – it’s the world championship and where you have all the best long distance triathletes in the world.
What is your pre-race ritual? Always drink a Corona beer the day before ;)
What do you think about while running? I’m singing, I’m not thinking at all – just trying to clear the mind, enjoy the nature etc.
What is your go to training meal? Yoghurt with granola.
What song is your go to for the run? Hmmm I have many – as long as I can sing along that’s best.
What is your passion next to endurance sports? Hanging out with friends and family.
Who would you be if you weren’t a professional athlete? I have a Master’s degree in sport and health, so I would for sure be doing something with sports anyway.
What does no one tell you about being a professional athlete? That it’s not all easy…
What was the best piece of running advice you ever received? It sounds simple but it was to relax and believe in my running. I always had been told that “I couldn’t run” – and never learned to run, but being told to relax and believe changed all that!
What advice do you have for someone who wants to follow in your footsteps?
Follow your gut-feeling and remember to smile and to enjoy the process. Results are not everything!
