First, this is my third pair of ONs. I love the trail shoes. I am not a runner so when I first came across the ONs, they helped me run more. I was excited for the Cloud X because they claim to be more CrossFit/gym oriented.
First impressions out of the box, they are crazy light. Slipped them on without socks for the first few hours around the house. They felt great with a surprising amount of support and stability.
Next day, went to the gym with them, but wore socks. I did some weight training along with some CrossFit stuff. Tire flips, push ups, burpees and stuff like that. As stated before I was surprised at how stable they were for being so light and airy.
As I was doing my exercises I started noticing my toes pressing toward the front of the shoe (completely normal) and ground while in a plank position. This made me notice the design of the toe of this shoe. The shoe is build light, like a runner, with a small rubber piece and then only fabric exposed to 99% of the toe where it meets the rubber sole. I am afraid the toe is going to get tore apart from any activity that isn’t straight up running.
Overall the shoe is great and seems to perform fantastic for what it is advertised for. If any improvement can be made, it needs a toe guard.. nothing crazy but something to protect the fabric from the ground during plank position exercises, anything in a CrossFit style gym or even a curb while running. They are expensive and although the quality is top notch, something as simple as a push-up is going to wear that toe fast. Time will only tell though.
