Tech Profile: The On Zero Jacket

On’s DNA was forged in the Swiss mountains, so we know that going fast or slow, high or low, the weather should never be a barrier. That’s why we created the Zero Jacket. A lightweight, windproof, breathable layer, it will offer you protection wherever you are–from the city streets to the mountain trails–whatever the conditions. Here’s a closer look at how we created the ultimate packable jacket.

Lightweight design, heavyweight protection 

While creating the ISPO Award-winning jacket, our designers obsessed over every detail with one aim: to unlock the maximum wind-stopping, rain-beating, chill-busting performance with the minimum weight. 

At just 61g in the men’s and 52g in the women’s – the equivalent of a tennis ball – this ultralight, ultra-stripped-back jacket virtually disappears from the moment you put it on. Providing an almost invisible layer of protection so you’re free to give everything with comfort and confidence regardless of the weather. 

The Zero Jacket’s athletic cut is perfect for light, fast training in unpredictable weather. But because it’s featherlight and ultra-packable, it’s great for racing, too.

Disappearing act 

Thanks to mini-ripstop, a protective, durable fabric that weighs just 29g per square meter, the only reason you’ll know you're wearing this jacket is the protection it provides from the wind and rain. It’s the perfect balance of weight, weather protection, breathability, durability and sustainability. 

"We reduced every detail to an absolute minimum,” says Daniel Hanssler, Apparel Product Management Lead at On. “For example, the ultralight zipper tape and the fact that the jacket fits in any pocket. 

“Unpacked, the Zero Jacket unfolds its full potential by protecting against wind and water, thereby enabling the runner to achieve maximum performance. Those who try it will experience an effortless running experience."

Dry run

The Swiss-engineered Zero Jacket is treated with a water-repellent coating so it’s water-resistant and fully windproof, so you can run, hike and cycle through gales and light rain without feeling the chill. 

When you bring the heat, ventilated underarms and excellent breathability keep you airy and dry.

Leader of the the pack 

Whether you're exploring the trails, hitting the gym or just need an extra layer for a late night jog, the Zero Jacket folds away into the tiniest of pockets. The result: it’s easy to pack guaranteed protection without being weighed down. 

And when the sun sets, a reflective On logo on the elbows keeps you visible to passers-by and urban traffic.

Minimal impact

Feeling light in your pack or on your back is one thing, but we designed the Zero Jacket to leave a lighter impact on the planet, too. The jacket’s main fabric is made from 100% recycled polyamide and overall around 68% of the total content is recycled. It’s highly durable too and more miles mean less waste. So it protects you and the environment.
