Q&A with Jacqui Allen
How did you start running? I was actually a swimmer at school but soon found that my fitness from swimming transferred over to running and without any specific training, I was representing my county at 1500m and cross country.
Why do you run now? I love to run on trails. I love feeling fast and being at one with nature. I let my mind wonder and often find solutions and great ideas.
What has been the most important race you’ve run to date? I still consider Xterra World Champions to be my most important race as I get to test myself against all of the best girls from all over the world and on that single day, there’s always the possibility of being crowned world Xterra Champion.
What race do you have in your sights?
I dream of a World Championship medal at either Xterra or ITU Cross Worlds. I’ve come close with a 4th and 5th but still search for that perfect preparation and perfect day - I love the challenge.
What is your pre-race ritual? I always give my husband Ben Allen a kiss beforehand.
What do you think about while running? I think about so many things. I seem to have the best ideas when I’m running. I come up with many solutions to my day to day encounters.
What is your go to training meal? I love avocado, poached eggs and tomato on sour-dough.
What song is your go to for the run? Anything by Swedish House Mafia - I love “Don’t you worry child”
Who is your “team”? My husband Ben Allen, my Mum, family, friends and our kind sponsors. All of these people add pieces to the puzzle to create a successful and supportive team.
