Q&A with Mauricio Mendez

How did you start running? I started doing sports because of my Dad, it has always been our thing, a time to be together and now it’s our passion and biggest dream.

Why do you run now? Because of the freedom that comes with it, the knowledge you can discover while running and the pure passion of a little suffering.

What has been the most important race you’ve run to date? Until today, XTERRA WC 2016 because it marked the start of a whole new world and way of living for me.

What is your pre-race ritual? Good warm up, with a deep talk with my Dad.

What do you think about while running? Might be my purest time to personal thinking while thinking about going faster at the same time!

What is your go to training meal? Always love a nice coffee with a croissant.

What song is your go to for the run? Lose yourself (EMINEM)

Who is your "team"? My family, my Dad and coaches, followed by my sponsors and everyone who is involved on this journey.

What is your passion next to endurance sports? Coffee, outdoors life.

Who would you be if you weren’t a professional athlete? Maybe I’d be some kind of artist (or into extreme sports).

What does no one tell you about being a professional athlete?

Your number one thing has to be your sport, no matter how hard or bad that sounds.

What was the best piece of running advice you ever received? Breathe!

What advice do you have for someone who wants to follow in your footsteps? Enjoy every single moment of it and get someone you love to support you.

Why On? Because of their philosophy. There might been tons of running brands, but I don’t know any other brand besides On that would support no the runner but the DREAMER!
